Good point, check if they have posted any BIOS updates. Vista works but
remem. this is an OEM version that Dell most likely has tweaked to get
everything to work with the hardware whereas with Linux you are trying
a generally available distro.
Is the model known to work with Linux (from their support forums)? You
might get better mileage in the forums.
