PHP is a very good Web Application development language. You could use
something like drupal (http://www.drupal.org/) or assemble your own cms
from the various classes available from http://www.phpclasses.org/ ;.
Hmm...PHP is my favorite language.
Drupal looks promising. I have a very /modest/ webserver in my room. Its
a 266Mhz with 32 MB RAM. It runs FreeBSD and Xitami.
PostgressSQL/MySQL. I want to know which one is light weight. I had a
bad experience running Apache on this baby.
If you are thinking of developing Free Software which is GPL compatible,
try using php3. php4 has a GPL incompatible license and might run into
complications in the future. But as far as a personal homepage goes, i
think there wouldn't be any point in making your homepage 'Free
Software' unless you think you have a good piece of code in there.

Ha ! Have been programming with PHP 4.x and 4.2 lately and never knew
about this issue.
I am not planning to develop anything new, because the mess out there is
enough. Better to join some group that gets it atleast half correct and
improve.
Thanks for the input. Drupal has enough food to keep me busy. But, I
dont see a Photo Gallery module. Talk about 'Giving back to the
community'. :)
