Good. Before implementing the solution, you should also think about
the following points.
1. How Confidential is the data? You should have the same data access
policy for the backups that you have for the actual data.
2. Assuring the Integrity of the data, by recording MD5/SHA1 checksums.
3. Availability of the data - if the master copy of the data crashes,
how much downtime can you suffer? Do you need the backup to be
restored within minutes or hours or days?
The above three together are sometimes known as the CIA principle (and
are not restricted just to backups). Apart from these,
1. Retention period. You cannot keep old data forever - storage,
outside of google, is not infinite. You need to draw a line somewhere
and decide that you wouldn't store data older than so many days.
2. Offsite backups - do you need those? What if a fire destroys both
your production and backup copy?
3. How often do you need full backups and how often do you need
incremental backups?
