[Ilugc] Advocating foss for final year college project

Students are not able to use these things because they are not aware of
these things, which happens because they do not have an opportunity or
requirement to use them.
Is there any possibility that those from industry create such opportunity..
Currently i see lot of engg students completing 2ndyear, vaguely trying for
IPT, without knowing what it is.. the most common destination for CS, IT
and Electronics student is BSNL :)
They do not tend to use collaboration softwares because they have nothing
sorta collaboration in their curriculum and expecting them to come out of
their curriculum jail is something that I don't see happening in near
future.
Very valid.. Wondering If not us, who is going to tie the bell.. is there
any other possibility, that the students can be motivated inspite of such
**handicap**
Best way is to make the teaching community addict to using these
collobarative tools for their own purpose.. Like maintaining a separate
server, which hosts an email server (initially for staffs alone for internal
communication) , and webserver.. deploying wiki to maintain and update
syllabuses, and other course materials..
Deploying a blog to maintain communications...
By opening the server to the internet, it would create a change in how they
operate.. if we make it as a habit, it will be a starting point, i feel.
I feel, this is achievable.. If we could demonstrate in one college, others
will automatically follow.. for that we need momentum and co-ordinated
effort from ourselves.. (ie from industry professionals..) ..
In my personal experience, I found most student's interest to be very short
lived and temporary and it dies out as soon as they get placed in some foo,
bar MNC. Although I knew students within ILUGC itself contributing more than
I have ever tried to, they still are a meager percentage of the student
community (even within ILUGC) and they themselves were futile in trying to
get their pals in.
Yes indeed.. i am looking for cause analysis.. Passion and vision is what
required most.. But who is going to infuse those? I feel, it doesnt come
automatically.. we need some path breaking initiative to break this
deadlock..
