Thanks for that tip guys. I have been doing it by the "restart Allegro"
method all along: although I guess it is nice to get instant
gratification.

I am taking not of this as well.

I noticed that Gary M. utilizes a 58-key x-keys keyboard to getter done.
It almost reminds me of the days when the Rat and not the mouse was the
coveted gizmo. :)

I also utilize a boat load of macros; however, I have only the 58- key
QWERTY keyboard at my disposal.

But that coupled with the boatload of macros/commands linked up with a
boatload of fun ckeys: then the QWERTY keypad is a pretty smooth
Operator.

If you're not already doing it by now, then you are missing out on some
good productivity enhancements.

Sincerely yours,

Thanks Oscar and Gary,

This has been bugging me for a while - and I new there had to be a way
to do it.

I just tried it and it works great!!! What a time saver - I've been
working more with Allegro APD packaging doing Die and BGA packaging
lately on substrates - with a lot of manual edits

and doing more commands which require hunting and pecking on the menu.
Which I am not real fast at, about the second time trying

To find it on the menu - I'm ready for an alias, but hesitate to create
it because of the amount of time I waste rebooting Allegro APD.

I put this note right at the top of my ENV file - so I won't forget it.

Thanks!!!

Dennis

Hey Dennis,

Wow, I forgot about "source" (thanks Oscar), been away from that sort of
thing for years now.

I tried it from the Allegro command line and it works! No more getting
out then back in!!

At the Allegro Command line type:

"source C:\pcbenv\env" (or equivalent path)

Gary

Hey Dennis,

I don't know of any other way to pick up env file changes other than
getting out then back in to Allegro.

BTW, you can see all of the available keyboard commands (I *think* it's
all of them) here:

Tools -> Utilities -> Keyboard Commands

I didn't see one that would reread in the env file. It would make sense
to be able to do this without getting out of Allegro.

Also, in Allegro, at the command line:

- type "alias" to see your current Aliases and Funckeys

- type "set" to see all of your set variables

Good luck!

Subject: [PCB_FORUM] Allegro ENV file question

I have been updating my ENV file with more custom alias assignments -
but the only way I know how to incorporate the ENV file change

is to shut down Allegro and then start it up again to activate the
changes to the ENV file.

Does anyone know a command at the Allegro command prompt to re-read the
ENV file without having to shut down Allegro and then start it up again?

Thanks in advance to everyone who contributes to this forum!!!
