It sounds like you haven't set up printers properly.
This RiscCube Shuttle RiscOS-on-Windows Printing Dir has
!Printers+ -- not !Printers, whose iconbaricon says
CP1515N, calls itself a windows printer and has always
printed via the laserjet without being set up, unless
AndrewR did it by remote control.
You can have more than one printer set up in !Printers. If
you menu over the !Printers icon (probably called CP1515N
on your icon bar) and click on Printer control, a window
will open into which you can drag another printer
definition file.
This will set up another printer whose icon will appear on
the icon bar. Mine is PDF3 as supplied by John Tytgat and
Martin Wuerthner in their !PS3 application. If and when you
get a second printer set up, don't forget to Save choices
from either of the 2 printer icons.
(2) Steve Fryatt:
You'll find [what to to] is documented in the PrintPDF
manual, in the installation section.
Boot-ensuring of PrintPDF & GhostScript was simple
enough, but "setting up printers" onwards was too
complex:
Complex? Not really. You just have to be careful to follow
Steve's comprehensive instructions.
"print" for "save"? "dragndrop"? PDF3? PS2or3?
With PrintPDF, printing involves sending data to a file
(where it is saved) rather than sending data to a printer
where it is 'saved' onto paper.
Drag and drop is used to set up the pathway to the file to
save you mistyping it.
Whether you use the PDF3 printer definition file from !PS3
or the PS2 printer definition file supplied by Steve,
depends on which one you have. If you have PDF3, use it.
It's much better than the Acorn-developed PS2 one.
!GhostScr only in !Boot.Resources, with a !Run which only
runs its !Help textfile.
It's not meant to be an application like Draw or Edit, it
only provides resources for other applications. As such, it
doesn't need to sit on the icon bar. This is explained in
the help file about half-way down. It says:
Using GhostScript for RISC OS

If you double-click on !GhostScr nothing happens except
that this !Help file is displayed. The reason is that
GhostScript is a command-line program, so to use it you
need to issue appropriate commands using the CLI or a
TaskWindow. Fortunately, there are Wimp front-ends for the
most important tasks.
It then lists 3 programs which use it including PrintPDF.
(3) An RComp man said get their PDF suite or maker.
Didn't think to ask: does that mean their RiscCube OS
comes with different kit, such as !Printers+, altering
PDF access?
On VRPC, I'm using Printers+ v1.91a and it all works
seamlessly. I haven't yet set it up here on the ARMX6 but I
don't anticipate any problems using Printers v1.85.
Missing the obvious,
Possibly, even probably. From the tone of your posting, I
get the impression that you are getting confused with all
the options available. Make sure you read through Steve's
ReadMe file carefully and decide what you are going to do
before implementing your choices. It tells you everything
you need to know.
