Fantastic Michael,

I especially like several of these updates. I'm sure each of us has his or
her personal favorites.

But, you say "clean up your hard disk" before doig this upgrade, so the disk
can be repartitioned. That's fine, but shouldn't you tell people to save
what they have on their hard drive (i.e., bak it up somewhere else) since
partitioning will erase all the data on the hard drive. At least, there are
very few situations I know of in which partitioning won't clobber all
existing data. Is this one of them? I need to know, because I just moved
several gigabytes of music to my Icon yesterday, and I'll want to back this
stuff and everything else up before the upgrade so I can put it back when
the upgrade is ffinished, right?

I had made a whole hierarchy directories so that I won't lose my local
additions when the system is upgraded/flashed. I realize it is on me to
backup and restore this stuff in extremely strange cases where you need to
change the hard disk so radically. I'm assuming such repartitioning won't be
required again in the near future, right? By the way, moving the location
for the quick default recorder to the hard drive from the flash memory is an
excellent idea. It was one of my first thoghts when I learnrned about the
default recording location the day I got my Icon. Good change So are many of
the others. Many of the fixes and updates impact me immediately, the others
I can see will be better when I use some of those features in the future.

And, I'll be the one to ask about things which aren't in this uppgrade. Can
we still expect the ability to work with Audible.com will be released before
the end of the year? I know many of us were hoping for the
September/October time frame, but it got pushed back a little. Does by
December seem possible?

Thanks

John Esak

Subject: [icon-discuss] Version 1.06 Build 21 to be released

We are releasing a new version of software for the Icon and Braille+. There
are quite a few changes in this new version. I will list these changes, but
I wanted to make note of a couple of things first.

The update has not been released yet. We wanted to give everyone a chance
to read through this message first. It will be released this afternoon.

One of the biggest changes in the new version is virtual memory. This will
allow users to open multiple applications and leave them running. What this
means to you is that we will require some disk space. We will need 500
megabytes of space, so before you download this new version please clean up
your hard drive and make this space available. Once your system has updated
it will ask to perform some system maintenance. If you answer yes it will
check your drive for errors and then re-partition the drive. You can answer
no, but if the re-partition is not done virtual memory can not be turned on.

Now, here is the list of changes. A new manual will soon be posted to
reflect these changes and the help file has been updated.
