Hi. I set the work group as FAMILY (all caps) since that is what my computers are set to. I am running vista home premium. I haven't installed service pack one yet. One thing you can do right away is to go into control panel and to network manager. Have it look for all computers and devices. Assuming your icon or braille plus is connected wirelessly, your computer will see it. You can right click on it and send a shortcut to your desktop. Clicking on that shortcut will show you a list of all of the folders on your unit that you have shared and also a printer one, which Jenny mentioned in her what's new podcast. You can transfer files to and from your unit as long as you are sitting at your computer. I am running the latest version of eset smart security. But it doesn't seem to matter whether the firewall is on or off. I just tried it with the firewall in place and was able to get into my music folder on my braille plus. Hope this helps and I will be waiting to see how it goes for you. Thanks. -----Original Message----- From: icon-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:icon-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Pratik Patel Sent: Tuesday, April 01, 2008 8:45 PM To: icon-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [icon-discuss] Re: 1.1 feedback Paul, I have a Vista laptop which I plan to use over the weekend to try and set up network sharing on it. I'll let you know what my experiences were. Do you have the workgroup name setup correctly? Capitalization matters. BTW, what Vista version are you running? My computer name is PAUL all caps. I tried this as you instructed. I hadn't thought to put the slash at the end. I got an error sayng something like gen gate. It was a pretty long error message. Although I log on to my desktop computer with a password, none of the folders on my network which I share with my wife's computer are password protected. She also has a laptop and she can get into her desktop computer to get or place files she is working on. She can also get to my computer if I have a file she needs with either her desktop or her laptop, but only the laptop is wireless. -----Original Message----- From: icon-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:icon-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of John McCann Sent: Tuesday, April 01, 2008 1:06 PM To: icon-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [icon-discuss] Re: 1.1 feedback Paul wrote: If I use a double slash between the folder names as in "PAUL//Paul Henrichsen//Music" I am told the share name is incorrect." No surprise there; you only use two slashes at the beginning of the path; all other separaters are single slashes. I'm confused by your having put "paul" in quotes at the head of the path string as quoted above, unless that's your computer name. If so, the correct syntax would be: //paul/paul henrichsen/music/ HTH!
