One magic trick to catching hesitant hummers is to use a decoy hummingbird on
the feeder in the trap. It worked on a Colorado Rivoli's in 2014, and on a
hybrid male Rivoli's x Black-chinned that we caught last July at the Sedona
Hummingbird Festival.
I sourced my decoys from a flower shop where the owner uses them in
arrangements. Except for brighter colors they are pretty realistic, and
irresistible, especially for males.
