If you require monitoring I've only really heard of ADT and SimpliSafe, but
not many people recommend either one. If you are interested in DIY it's
possible to put together a system yourself using home automation such as
Samsung's Smart Things hub combined with zwave and zigbee based sensors.
My house alerts me when a door or motion sensor is tripped (if armed), if a
smoke or CO2 alarm goes off, and I also have control of lighting and
monitoring power consumption in some places.
