Last Thursday, New Hampshire's Supreme Court released their advisory
opinion that HB 1264 is constitutional.
HB 1264 is a voter suppression bill - a poll tax that would violate the
rights of eligible voters legitimately living in-state on a temporary basis
(like college students, medical residents, and military personnel) through
new regulations. These hurdles will discourage voters who do not have the
time or money to comply. Voter laws should encourage voters to show up at
the polls, not place unnecessary impediments in their paths. High voter
turnout is good for a strong democracy. WMUR reported on May 29th, "An
exhaustive review by state election officials, including a first-time
comparison of voter information shared with 27 other states, has turned up
virtually no evidence of possible voter fraud in New Hampshire." This bill
is unfounded and unnecessary.
Just because something is constitutional does not mean that it is right.
HB 1264's passage would be harmful to voters' rights. Limiting the ability
to vote by means of unwarranted obstacles is WRONG.
Governor Sununu now faces a decision: sign or veto this voter suppression
bill, HB 1264. Last year, Sununu said he would “never support anything that
would suppress the student vote.” Despite this promise, Sununu recently
hinted that the bill would be “hard not to sign” if the NH Supreme Court
ruled it constitutional. Considering his long record of promoting and
supporting voter fraud lies, it’s really no surprise that Sununu leans
towards signing it. This week, voters in New Hampshire will see whether
Sununu will keep his promise to college students.

governor with veto powers, Sununu can do whatever he desires. If he cares
about democracy and the rights of individuals, Sununu must VETO HB 1264. If
he is against voter suppression, Sununu must VETO HB 1264. If he wishes to

Please call Governor Sununu (603-271-2121) today and urge him to say NO to
voter suppression by vetoing HB 1264, before it is too late.

Governor Sununu is now faced with a decision: sign or veto the voter
suppression bill, HB 1264. Later this week, young voters across the state
will see whether Governor Sununu will keep his promise to them. Late last
year, Sununu said he “hates” this modern day poll tax and that he would
“never support anything that would suppress the student vote.” Despite
this promise, the governor recently hinted that the bill would be “hard not

Sununu needs to show us that he is NOT in favor of voter suppression.
Sununu needs to keep the promise he made to young voters last year and VETO

court says, it is clear to see that its passage is harmful and immoral. A
recent example of a bad constitutional law is the Patriot Act. The Patriot
Act allowed the government to spy on American citizens without their
consent or their knowledge. The law is constitutional and it we can all
agree it was also a terrible piece of legislation.
A bill’s constitutionality does not determine its moral correctness. The
Supreme Court’s decision that HB1264 is constitutional does not mean that
is should be signed into law. It will pervert what should be a free and
fair election cycle.
Plain and simple, HB 1264 is not fair to younger eligible voters. Governor
Sununu is our governor, he can do whatever he wants and if he care about
the rights of individuals and about democracy, he should most certainly
VETO it.
Please call Governor Sununu today (603) 271-2121 today and urge him to say
NO to HB 1264, before it is too late.

voter restriction bill HB 1264 is constitutional, paving the way for
