Someone stole my boyfriend's Identity, requested a credit card that was
mailed to our box and got it out of the box before we could get our mail
that day and used the new card the next morning. Be on the look out for
suspicious mailbox activity.

reporting this theft to the USPS since mail theft is a federal offense.
To replace the lock, you could either contact a locksmith (the more
costly option) or purchase a replacement lock from the link that one our
neighbors just sent or pick up the lock at Lowes, Ace Hardware, or Home
Depot. An associate at one of these big box stores can help you purchase
the correct lock (typically under $10). You will then need to coordinate
with the mail carrier to have them open the box so that you can have the
new lock installed. The mail carriers are more than happy to assist usually
as they understand how the mailbox lock mechanism works. Whether working
with a locksmith or installing yourself, you will need to coordinate with
the mail carrier.
