Hello both,
Well, the problem seems to be with the computer rather than Excel
because when I swap to a different computer the problem goes away!!!
I have looked on line as you suggest, Tony, but I am able to copy the
other columns even the date progresses but what I have lost is the
little Auto Infill box which appears bottom right so I can select "Copy
Cells" (as marked on snip).
All this work and worry and I could just work on another laptop but it's
so old I'm afraid of everything going off into the far distance.
...as for the 1955 pages, Chris. I have really only just made a start
1997 and it will need to be added as a separate work sheet as you don't
want me to send in a repeat of what we have already done.
Thanks for your help.
Patsy

Well spotted Tony,
That’s not exactly where you’d think to look for something controlling
the Auto Fill!

Patsy,
Is it still not there if you open a new Excel file/workbook?
If it is there that suggests that the file you are working on may have
become corrupted.
If not it might be worth running a “repair” on Excel.
That will differ on different versions of Excel and also Windows but
take a look in Control Panel under Programs and Features. Within that
you may find Excel or Microsoft Office and double clicking on that
entry may offer the option to repair the program.
Sorry I can’t be more specific but hopefully Tony will be able to guide
you further.

Hello Chris,
Thanks for this, but as I'm working on the old version of Excel - I
can't see a File Tab with any of the other bits you mention. Ah! just
found it by right clicking the Office tab. The "Enable Fill" is ticked
so now I'm stuck. It just means I have to enter every date rather than
copying. It only enables the following date but not to copy unless I
have more than one to copy. It will copy if I highlight two cells.
I hope this is clearer than the proverbial "mud".

Hi Patsy,
If you’d like to tackle the missing months please let me know and I’ll
send the link – but no hurry.
With regard your missing AutoFill handle I suspect “Enable fill handle…”
has got turned off in Options (under Advanced in the Options dialog
found under the File tab at the top of the Excel sheet). Have a look
and if it is unticked that could be it – otherwise I don’t know what the
answer is sorry.

Hello,
That would be ME!
1st January 1951 to 24th April 1955 we shared (Rosemary and I).
I have another problem someone may be able to help with.
I seem to have lost the little "fill" tab to be able to copy down or
"copy cells" off the date column. Can anyone help me get it back?

Thanks Tony,
Your conclusions are the same as mine. We have the missing 1955 pages –
just needs a volunteer to take them on (who did the rest of 1955?)
Thanks for looking after the missing ones that Christine spotted, we can
fit them in in an “Odd” file when you manage to get hold of them.
They can also be added to the 1955 Excel sheet and/or dropped into the
database of the whole.
No hurry – we just need to make sure they aren’t overlooked.
Anybody fancy taking on the task of proof reading all the output! ☹ I
think that will be beyond us.

Re missing pages:
1. Week 6 from 1996 is now hopefully resolved if Karen can read
the scan okay.
2. As Chris says, the last entry transcribed is in the volume 1st
Jan 1951 to 22nd April 1955 (last negative 99999) then a gap until the
start of 1956 – which is included in the first part of the next volume
which I copied apart from the identified missing pages (as below):
3. Negatives 145 to 189 (boxes 4, 5 & 6) and negatives 460 to 504
(boxes 25, 26 & 27), which Christine’s now doing? are in the volume that
starts from 23 April 1955 to Dec 1961 volume. I am sorry to say went
back into the Museum. I will ask Josh if I can borrow it again in order
to copy them.
I think that’s correct.
Will let you know when I have those missing pages copied.

Hi Christine,
Not the same because in this case the missing items are in Tony’s
scanned pages but haven’t been transcribed. I think whoever did that
multi-year volume started at the beginning of 1956 and the 1955 pages
which should have joined the rest of 1955 from the previous volume were
overlooked.
Basically there are just over 8 months that need transcribing still.
TONY – please can we try to get the missing numbers Christine has
spotted below plus the Week 6 of 1996 that Karen has just spotted
re-photographed please? No hurry but we mustn’t forget them – they can
all be combined into one small file.
The transcribers’ output can then be called something like “Missing
pages” and can be added to the final database as one job (alternatively
they can be added to the relevant year’s Excel files but I suspect Josh
will be keen to add them all to the museum’s normal database system at
some point).
Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris - I messaged you a while back about the missing pages from
1955. They are negatives numbered 145 to 189 (boxes 4, 5 & 6) and
negatives 460 to 504 (boxes 25, 26 & 27)
Would this have something to do with it?

Dear all,
While just searching for a photograph in the database I’ve just
discovered over half a year’s entries are missing.
I’m not quite sure why but the last entry that has been transcribed in
1955 is on 22nd April – negative 9999 and there is then nothing until
the start of 1956.
Does anybody fancy taking on filling the gap please?
It’s part of a volume that covers up until 1961 but the rest of it is
already there so it’s just negatives from 100 at the beginning of the
file up to the end of December that need doing.
If you can help please let me know and I’ll send you the volume link.
Thanks,
