Richard, I know how you feel. It is a gnawing feeling of lacking something important. I am in the same situation. Like having a bomb, but no fuse. Or a car without an engine. This kind of distress is widespread and very common, I am afraid. There is no cure, but to watch the 2.hand market, like an aligator, and rush onto the victim as soon as one is for sale.
