I was interested in this, so I did a quick Google and found that
FreeBSD have a Firewire stack in their CVS. It looks like its not
been touched for a while though:

http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/cvsweb.cgi/src/sys/dev/firewire/

Intel have specs for OHCI for Firewire available for download:

http://developer.intel.com/technology/1394/download/ohci_11.htm

It may be possible that the OHCI stuff for USB could be re-used for
1394 reducing the amount of work needed. I don't know how high
priority this would be, seeing as you seem to be the first person
asking for it :)
