Howdy,

Are there difficult technical hurdles and/or lack-of-time(real life issues) and/or lack-of-developer-interest? What does everyone here think about how
useful it would be to have it?

Hello,
I didn't hear much about it recently. There was a project to port openjdk.

OpenJKD is being ported to Haiku by Andrew Bachmann; he was hacking on it last weekend at SHDH37, so you could say it is active. :)

Andrew is not on this list, though, so you may want to join the OpenJDK haiku-port-dev list if you are interested in the project:
