The BeOS kernel that Be, Inc. shipped is *not* opensource. The OpenBeOS kernel, however, is. It is under the MIT license.

Secound how does it handle gui. is it something like X servers?

It is something like a X server, in that there is a client/server interaction between the application and the app_server, which is responsible for the execution of all drawing operations (among other things).

Third if the gui is gpl can it be ported to linux or bsd.

I doubt it would be easy enough to be worth doing. The app_server is written to run on the OpenBeOS kernel.

forth what are you guys doing? I don't mean to sound rude. But what exactly
are you guys doing.

We are re-creating BeOS R5 with both source and binary compatibility. Once that task is complete, we'll move on with improving the system.

I am not a beos user. I generally use linux. Except for gaming. But . I just
installed beos personal edition and it seem a lot like linux. it's shell I
mean.

Well, it's bash, so I'm not surprised that it seems familiar. =)

Oh Oh does beos have libc and glib c type libraries. and how about gcc

Yes, though we call it libroot.so. We use gcc 2.95.3 (not sure about that .3; correction, anyone?).

I am really excited to see your project. excuse me for my questions

No worries. =)
