Most likely the screenmode is somehow wrong. If it was Tracker, you
would still get a blue screen (not black), as the desktop is drawn first
by app_server, and a mouse cursor.
From the boot menu you can try to force a video mode and/or use fail
safe video. Then from there (if the display is back), reconfigure your
video mode in screen preferences.
