I look at waddlesplash's screnshots of DejaVu and don't understand why
he regards them as nicer than Noto...

I can see the instant difference. The one looks like Haiku. The other one does 
not.  What revision was the beginning of Noto as default?

Lots of white space seems pointless. The tab enlarges, to encompass a font that 
is smaller.  Doesn't make sense.  The white space of the tab should be the same 
distance around the text, regardless of font. At least I assume so.
