I don't know about Trac, but the SMTP module actually needs a POP account to which it logs on to send email. So if you create, say, a web@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and use that, the SMTP module should work. IOW, I don't think you need to do anything with the MX records. Just create the POP account, change the settings in the SMTP module, and you should be done.
