Speaking carefully as a board member here:
Does Haiku have a policy against speaking with journalists with specific
political ideals?
No. We have a wide range of political leanings in our group. Discussion of
political ideals is
irrelevant to Haiku (the computer operating system). In an official capacity if
I was speaking
on behalf of Haiku, Inc. i'd knock down such questions as irrelevant
(regardless of their
positioning)
If so, what are the details of that policy?
There's no policy, however we don't talk politics in official capacities. It's
irrelevant. We accept
everyone regardless of their ideals as long as they afford everyone else in the
community
that same acceptance. We have conservatives and progressives in our ranks.
Does that policy extend to users, developers, financial supporters, or others
involved or interacting
with Haiku?
Talking in-depth politics or religion in our forums is generally frowned upon.
It doesn't matter what
the positioning is. Posts mentioning politics or religion generally are
generally flagged off-topic by
our moderators (who are generally not the same people working in official
capacity of Haiku, Inc.)
and closed.
(Occasionally someone posts about their religious app in the forums, those are
generally left alone
as discussion of software for Haiku is generally on-topic). Obviously this is a
gray area however.
If someone made a post about an application promoting violence, etc it would
likely be
closed / removed.
Who created that policy and how can they be reached for comment?
The community. There's no individual publishing these policies. It's based on
the general feel from
our community members. When we do something that receives negative feedback, we
adjust.
At the end of the day, while Haiku is a community and Haiku, Inc. looks towards
its community
members for guidance on policy making.. Haiku, Inc. is a company and must
protect its brand
and less-spoken for community members. Haiku, Inc. funds the servers using
generous donations
from our widely scoped community, thus we try to keep everything universally
accessible.
"We fund the servers to support the advancement of Haiku (the operating
system), not discourse"
Fight me on it.

After some conversations, I am left with the understanding that Haiku
has a policy of not working with journalists who have non-Left-Leaning personal
political stances (even when the publications are non-political).
I am asking for an official answer to the following questions here:
*
Does Haiku have a policy against speaking with journalists with
specific political ideals?
*
If so, what are the details of that policy?
*
Does that policy extend to users, developers, financial supporters, or
others involved or interacting with Haiku?
*
Who created that policy and how can they be reached for comment?
I ask these questions as a long-time supporter and public advocate for
Haiku.
