As you may know, it is already the time to set up our application for
the summer of code. I will be admin this year (unless someone else wants
to handle it), and scott will be our backup admin.
I will be setting up the ideas page during this and next week. Since we
are probably migrating the website soon, I am working on it offline for
now. If you know some details on the website migration schedule, let me
know so I can submit things to the old or new site accordingly (we don't
want Google to find our ideas page offline when they review
applications).
Anyway, I would like to know who is interested in mentoring this year.
Please list the project ideas you think you can help with, either from
the 2016 page, or new ones.
This year we may experiment with broadening the scope of GSoC. In
addition to the usual ideas provided by Haiku, we would like to add more
ideas revolving around applications. We have a lot of those at
HaikuArchives, and some require a lot of work to be more complete and up
to date. If you have suggestions for ideas on Sequitur, Clockwerk,
UltraDV, Caya, or any other (open source) application, you can also send
it to us. There have been some examples of this in the past (for
example, porting WebKit to Haiku, and porting SDL2, was done with lots
of help from GSoC students).
We hope to get more slots with this approach, by having more ideas, and
a wider skill set requirement (not all the students are interested in
low-level code for the operating system, so having some ideas around
various GUI apps could help attracting more of them).
