That is new behavior, isn't it? Do you mean hiding when you say "background"?
Because the Desktop is always in the background.
I'm not sure if that turns out to be a bit annoying, at least if there isn't a
way to put all windows back where they were easily.
Also, in that case, it would be nice to have some kind of visual indicator of
what happened.

I think it does not make much sense in spatial mode. However, maybe it worth an
option, as the pragmatic view might differ from the pure one :-)
