Well, more activity in branches will not bring R1 any sooner. I'd rather 
try to focus on that first (even if it's less motivating) and then start to 
add the features for R2 and later. Getting a finished and polished release 
that just works is a boring task, but rather do it as soon as possible 
instead of piling up a lot of new features. These will just add more bugs. 
Yes, they are easy to fix, but still it takes time :). And I'm not sure 
people will move to the more complicated ones. R1 isn't that far off, so 
let's get it done first then start talking about all these API changes and 
additions we've been planning.
