I am revisiting this. Right now the situation is still the same with the
difefrence that if I select fail safe video mode in the boot menu and
select 1400x1050 resolution, it actually boots to that resolution without
any issues whatsoever. I will add debugging and report back (if I remember
correctly there was really a bug with debug_printf() that was fixed at
some point.
