Perhaps just make each change into a separate patch. The selected patches
can be committed in one go, and if one of the changes needs to be undo,
can just revert the individual patch.

FWIW, I use the yellow active window border, and the white on blue
selected menu items. The active window border I find helps distinguish it
from other windows on a cluttered desktop, and it blends beautifully into
the window tab colour.
