That makes sense ..
but i really want to make shure that we dont fight on two batlle lines.
I really would appreciate to have a final clear decicion on how to deal with
the
gobe offer.
The pro is.. that we would have a full featured suit.... running at a maybe
short
ammount of time..
while improvement will be (impossible if we cant get the source)
or horroible slow... (fixing all license issues first ... then start to
improve)
And will us cost money.
Away from all downsides (discussed in the forum)
I really would appreciate to have a free version
of Gobe productive and even more a opensourced one.. :-D.
I wrote my whole bachelor thesis on gobe so i kow about all up and downsides
(implementing autosave is a totaly must have ;-D )
So Question to Andrew Hudson could you try to clarify the necessary license
issui at least i and a lot of other usere would be verry happy.
Greetings & Blessing
Paradoxon
I agree with the assessment above. We would quickly have available all
functions available in Gobe Productive V2.
There are known bugs, and probably additional bugs yet to be discovered. We
will not have source code for V2, so
we cannot correct any bugs. I believe that we have source code for V3, but this
source code has 3rd party source which can not be released
to the public. So it cannot be open sourced as it exists. Also, to build this
code on Haiku would take many man-months
of dedicated development resources. It might be possible to build it 'as is' on
BeOS, and run that executable on Haiku. Just a thought.
The license that Haiku, LLC would have for GP V2 would be an OEM distribution
license. It would provide a legal agreement to
freely modify and distribute executables, and to freely distribute unlimited
copies at no cost. It is not an open source license.
I start this process with former members of Gobe.
Regards,
Andrew
