I managed to get this photo (the best of the ones I took):
     http://www.flickr.com/photos/56917928@N03/5252404640/

The loop is just wire (not easy to see) with two horizontal wooden supports
(slightly easier to see). With a coupling loop in the middle (which is what
Ed and Tim are stabilizing and is also very hard to see).

(I think Matt M took a photo or two as well)

- the general "deafness" of the antenna leads me to believe that we
won't get anywhere until we get our antenna "out of the basement"

We need to really sit down and suss out what kind of antennas we want and
where so we can get it done. I know Matt S has inputs into this, so I'm
hoping that when he's back we can get something done in time for/as part of,
the holiday shopcation.

There is also a question of what radio(s) would we use? Something that we
can plug in our HTs, for 2m/70cm seems good, but as i understand it, the
feed line loss at those freqs (esp. 70cm) means we'd need an amp next to the
antenna itself? Is that worth it or should we just use Yagi's in the shop to
hit the repeaters? I don't have a rig to donate for HF (I don't have any HG
rig at all). Maybe it'd be good to discuss what HF rigs it would be worth
getting (both for the shop and for individual members). (I'd be willing to
pitch in for part of a nice(r) shop rig than I would probably buy for
myself.)

Make thanks goes out to Tim for his help putting the antenna together
and everyone else in the shop with putting up with another night
filled with radio static. I'll get some headphones up there soon, I
promise.

Woot!
I've got mixed feelings about that. I think sometimes headphones would be
wanted/needed, but other times, I think its OK to share the audio with the
shop to try and get other folks hooked in. I mean, when there is a real
signal. (I'm not enough into John Cage to really enjoy the randomly tuned
static!)
