Ryan,
I was also interested in the Maker select, but wanted to know what upgrades
would cost I also wondered what the e3d hotend upgrade would cost.
Regards,
Cathy

Subject: [hackpgh-discuss] Re: Monoprice printers for sale
Ryan,
Sorry I couldn't make it to last 2 meetings, maker Faire and surviving election
fallout was.bad timing.
Talked with Bob berger tonight and he mentioned how nice the maker select was
with an all metal e3d hotend... I may be interested. Was interested in the
upgraded monoprice mini I saw 3 months ago, but this select version has my
interest now...
Let's discuss it over messenger later?

I am forwarding a note that I just sent to the 3DPPGH group list. Perhaps some
shop members may be interested as well.
All,
Chris and I bought a few Monoprice printers when they dipped recently in price.
Our intent was to offer them up to the 3DPPGH group in case you may have wanted
to buy one but missed the price drop. These are all new printers, and our plan
is to "tweak" them for hand off to interested buyers. Keep in mind that Chris
and I would not be making money here - just trying to help you dive in with a
really neat (but also inexpensive) printer. This is a labor of love more than
anything, and it is hard to place a dollar amount on our time invested to tweak
the printers.
This is what I am thinking and am looking for feedback:
* Monoprice Select Mini (http://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=15365)
o Option #1: Buy as is with a minor markup to cover our time
o Option #2: ~$200 - Modified with latest firmware and key printer mods (knob
adjustment, filament feed, glass bed w/ PEI surface and z end stop spacer)
o Option #3: ~$260 - Modified with same as Option #2 + E3D Lite hot end
* Maker Select 3D Printer v2
o I opened this badboy up last night, aligned the print head and ran an
initial print.
o Option #1: ~$275 - Buy as is with minor mark up to cover my time
o Option #2: $TBD - Custom tweaking of firmware, printing profiles and
printed modifications based on user group feedback.
I am not trying to dissuade anyone from the group build, but you will notice
that these printers are rather inexpensive and rival (if not beat) many of the
build options that we are considering.
