Hi Ian,
I have done very little customizing of JAWS for Gold Wave aside from muting
keyboard echo so that I don't have to listen to JAWS talking over the audio
I'm trying to record/play at the same time.
As far as getting silence when recording, that has me immediately thinking
that you should check your record volume and source settings in the Windows
Volume Control applet. Volume Control is located under
Programs/Accessories/Entertainment in both Windows 2000 and XP. Once you
have Volume Control open:
1. Choose "Options/Properties" from the pull-down menus.
2. Tab to the radio button that probably says "Adjust volume for playback".
Cursor to switch from this button to "Select volume for recording."
3. If you tab again you'll get to a list of volume controls where you can
select or deselect any volume controls you like. This list only selects
which volume controls you'll see when actually adjusting volume levels. It
doesn't determine which input sources are actually active. Once you've
decided which volume controls you want to see, tab to the OK button and hit
Enter or the space bar to dismiss the properties box.
4. Now you can set volume levels for whichever input devices you said you
wanted to see in the previous step. You'll see volume, mute, and possibly
balance controls for each input. If an input is muted, you won't be able
to record it. Likewise, if the volume is turned way down on an input, then
you also won't be able to record it. My sound card only lets me record
from one input source at a time, but I believe other cards let you turn on
multiple record sources at once.

Hi folks!
Ok, just as this thread appeared, a need arose for me to put an audio file
onto a website I manage. Happy coincidence! I downloaded GoldWave and
tried it out. I was able to modify the file I had and put it onto the
website with a fair degree of success. Thanks to those who made
suggestions.
So that I do not try to reinvent the wheel, does anyone have config files
for JAWS 6.1 for use with GoldWave?
I have experimented with trying to record through the microphone and line
inputs, but have recorded only silence. Can some one please point me to
where I am most likely going wrong?
