Hi Keith,

I am not certain whether you are talking about some external device to use with the laptop, or just turning off the display on the laptop, which is possible on most, if not all, laptops.

In my experience, the display accounts for about half the power used when it is on, so turning it off would double the time you have before the battery gets too low to operate the computer. My 3 year old Toshiba will go for well over 4 hours with the display off.

If there is a connector to which may be attached an external monitor, there will be a way of cycling among having the built-in display on, the external monitor on, and perhaps having them both on. Selecting an option in which the built-in display is off should do what you want to do. Different laptops have different ways of doing this. Mine uses the "FN" key and F5.

HTH.

Subject: [guispeak] Laptop Battery Saver Questions

Hello,

I've been interested in this device for some time, and I'd like
to hear from anyone who owns one.

Just recently I purchased a Dell Latitude D520 notebook. About how
much extra battery life or time using my computer would I gain by
turning off the screen? If anyone has used one of these battery savers,
no matter what notebook you own, I'd like to know how much more battery
usage you gained by turning off the screen.
