HELEN KELLER.

A tyrant, spoilt, lost and wild,
Growing up fast, but still a child,
Not understanding, full of strife,
Not knowing the full values of life.

Whimpers and screams, for her own way,
Tantrums and screams, each coming day,
Living for nothing, lost in her mind,
This child called Helen, deaf, dumb and blind.

-------------

TEACHER (Annie).

What a brat, I'll teach you yet, Whatever you want, you seem to get, How can I
get through, to make you see?
How can I make you understand me?

You copy the sign language, from my hand,
You mimic it, but you don't understand,
Tree is T R E E and everything has a name,
Your trapped in your spoilt whimpering game.

Your fingers spell when your asleep, I'm not giving in, I'm in too deep,
I'll spell and spell, you'll mimic it too, Every second and hour until I get
through.

Your a spoilt and tantrum child,
Your ways are wicked and your wild, You whim for this, you get your own way,
I'm going to teach you if it takes me all day.

-------------------

MOTHER (Mrs. Keller).

Leave her have it, she's just a child, She's loving, she's not really wild,
When six months old, she said "Wah,wah" (water),
She's bright, intelligent and she's my daughter.

I don't see why a sweet will ruin her meal,
She only lent it, she would never steal,
It was an accident, please don't moan,
She's a child, please leave her alone.

She can run like any child of her age, All you want is to keep her in a cage,
She only bangs when there is something she needs,
She knows I'll answer all her pleads.

Whenever she needs me I'll be there, She's special, she's bright and she's rare,
She can't see, speak or can't hear,
But she knows I'm always very near.

I'm her mother and she's my precious daughter,
Love and kindness is what I taught her,
She doesn't do wrong and she isn't wild,
Leave her alone she's just a child.

---------------

FATHER (Captain Keller).

Will someone stop that child?
Will someone stop her being wild?
Its unbearable living here any more, There's no peace, only shouting and war.

I can't concentrate on my work,
That child's making me go berserk, Can't someone control her wild head? Her
behaviours making me see red.

She breaks things every single day, Tantrums daily for her way,
Something has to be done now, not tomorrow,
This house is holding unbearable sorrow.

Tell me this is just a dream,
I can't stand another scream, Someone control her being wild,
I can't help it if she's just my child.

Your too young to be a teacher,
Your too young to be able to reach her,
This damn house is unstable and rough,
I'm going out I've had enough.

---------------

BROTHER.

What with the teacher and Helen both blind.
We now have two freaks to mind,
This is certainly going to be fun for me,
Blind leading the blind, no one can see.

You sure know how to make progress,
She can't wash, eat, play or dress, That finger spelling isn't going to work,
She only knows how to make us go berserk.

What are you going to teach her first? How to be good or how to get worst?
She doesn't like you Miss Annie doing that,
D O G dog, D O L L doll, C A T cat.

How do you expect Helen to learn that way?
Before she learns you'll be old and grey,
Arrrgh! I'm going to my room, your out of your mind,
You can't teach Helen who's deaf, dumb and blind.

---------------

UNDERSTANDING.

"Wah, Wah" Mrs. Keller quick she understands,
She wants more words from our hands,
D O L L doll, M A M A mama, boy she learns quick,
Water was the word that done the trick.

She loves, she cares, she understands,
How great is words from our hands, She wants to learn in just a hour,
That W A T E R is water and F L O W E R is flower.

So many words for so many things,
But she understands and how my heart sings,
I thought this day would never arrive,
The day Helen understood and came alive.

For all you teachers, parents out there,
Persevere, teach them that you care,
The beginning is hard, it all seems so bias,
But the rewards at the end are the highest.
So persevere, think of Helen and me,
And how UNDERSTANDING makes everyone SEE.
