Hi Omar,

Thanks for your help, Yes I agree Synchronous processing can have this
effect, and as you rightly say - a few reboots should resolve the issue.
But in the i case the event logs don't refer to Synchronous processing, as
I have seen with other machines in the past, never the less I have tried
to reboot the machine more than 20 times over the last week while testing
and have no luck.
"Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon" is also
already set in policy.

Do you have any other suggestions?

I don?t know about you guys but most of my troubles with deploying
Software with GPOs were solved with the Wait for network? GPO
configuration

Not sure if this may solve the issue cause the error does not give enough
info---but?your error of ?was : The installation source for this product
is not available?

Could be interpreted to mean that the machines tried to process the policy
and install the package but the network had not yet initiated.

Read this:
Configuring Synchronous Processing
Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 Server computers process foreground policy
synchronously by default. Windows XP processes foreground policy
asynchronously by default. In order to enable synchronous processing (at
startup/logon) on Windows XP, you must ensure that the following policy is
enabled (and disabled/not configured on Windows 2000/2003):
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Logon\
"Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon"
This setting ensures that policy completes before the startup/logon is
completed. The change to the default setting on Windows XP was designed to
speed up startup and logon processing. However, when performing
configurations that must take effect before the end-user has access to
his/her desktop, synchronous processing must be enabled.

From this link:
http://grouppolicy.editme.com/ClientSideProcessing

There are some drawbacks to configuring this policy setting as it may slow
down the logon process for many of your users- and direct end user impact
is usually a big no no

Try this setting- reboot a few times and see if it makes the difference.

How did you enter the path to the package in the GPO? Are you sure you
entered the UNC path rather than the literal (e.g.
d:\packages\mypackage.msi) path?

Minesh-
Are you deploying the package per-computer or per-user? If per-computer,
try ensuring that the Domain Computers group has read access to the share
and NTFS folders. Sometimes Everyone is not sufficient, even though it
should be.

Subject: [gptalk] Policy Failing

Hi

I am creating a new site and it is similar to the London and Hong Kong
offices, with all the same apps etc being applied in GP.

I am getting errors when I apply policy to a test machine the app isnt
installed.

These are the results of the RSoP scan:

Wednesday, October 31, 2007 03:45:15

The install of application Activexcontrol from policy Components Install
failed. The error was : The installation source for this product is not
available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it.

The install of application Adobe Flash Player 9 ActiveX from policy
Components Install failed. The error was : The installation source for
this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you
can access it.

I have given "everyone" full access to the app folder, therefore it cant
be any permission's?
I have also given "everyone" full access to the share and its
permission's, and it still fails. The app works fine in all the other
sites - and I created the MSI so I know its not to blame....

Can anyone help?
