This item from the CBYRA newsletter may be of interest to members. Chickahominy is closed right now, anyway, because the bridge is broken. IMPORTANT: Troubled Bridge over River Waters: Garland Gray passes along information that is important to southern Bay racers and cruisers: The swing bridge at the mouth of the Chickahominy River at the James River is about to be replaced with a fixed span of 45 or 51 feet (planned height has changed). A number of Tidewater area sailors and visitors have used the Chickahominy as a hurricane hole. The height of the bridge is crucial, of course. Garland passes along two key points of contact for the public to call to comment on the project: Terry Knowles with the Coast Guard at (757) 398-6222 and Larry Hedgepath with VDOT at (804) 786-6369. Pick up the phone and dial now - if Isabel's cousin shows up this fall, your comments could be too late! Thanks, John Wandling
