I would add the ability to creat user poi's is really valuable in finding approximately where one's house or bus stop is located. I agree with commercial poi's are nice, but are of little value to me as they can be outdated, however, sometimes in a strange environment, commercial poi's can be an aid to figuring out where one is on the street. A feature I'd like to see sendero implement is the ability to locate a nearby street when in an off street location so that I could figure out which way to walk in order to get back onto a mapped area. I hardly ever use root creation as I have good mental spacial ability and only need gps to affirm or to inform me of where I am located. If someone manages to build such application it would be too complex for most users. - User knows better when and what kind of information he/she needs. automatic announcements are helpful for crossings and destinations or when user gets out of route - ie next route point is not ahead. - User interface should be fast to use. Pressing one button (or image of a button) should suffice in most cases. Users have different preferences and a set of user-definable function keys is desirable. - Bellls, whistles and other audio pollution is not needed, neither extra verbosity. 100 meters is obiously a distance and 90 degrees is not a temperature. - Storing own points is critical. Storing own routes is important. Exchangin routes and points with other users is important too. - Exploring around current location or any other location is very important. - Magnetic compass is handy for pedestrian use. - Address announcements - especially those implementations that just pick a nearby address and claing you're on that spot - are quite pointless. Road crossings are much more reliable and accurate way to pinpoint one's location. - POIs are nice to know but sometimes out-of-date. Also such resources as Foursquare has a lot of garbage that have no real use. - Route calculation is over-emphasized feature. Firstly only few blind people really travel themselves every week on unknown areas and secondly route calculation and guidance for blind users is much more than just announce the turnings. For example how to find the road is user starts from off-road location; howto fin the next route point; how to get notified if user get lost in the route; how to find an off-road destination? Offline maps are faster to access but are also more prone to get out-of-date. They also take some space but for example Finland takes about 350 MB, quite minimal with current memory sizes. - To me price is not an issue. i can pay for example $ 100 per year for a working gps solution. -- mr.
