Good luck. Many rehab agencies don't see it as "necessary for employment".

I know some have gotten it, but I'd think you could make a better justification if your employment requires fairly frequent and independent travel.

There is a lot of justification for a GPS system as an improvement to, or augmentation of, one's travel skills; but, in the financially tight times most rehab agencies are experiencing right now, you'll need to show a direct and demonstrable employability benefit.

As an alternative, you might be able to justify the platform you want to run the GPS on, e.g. Braille Sense, and then once you are employed you could buy the GPS yourself.

It will also help you to be as independent and mobile as possible in your
chosen vocational field.

Tell them that it will help you in your indipendence. Like going
to stores and such things.

Subject: [gps-talkusers] Why buy a GPS for the blind?

I hav a meeting with Voc Rehab on Tuesday and I'm trying to write
a letter on why a GPS would be helpful.

Any idea on how to start?

I have this so far:

Why a GPS fohe blind?

The following is a lis of why a GPS for the blind would be
helpful.

1. a GPS for the blind can give information that a blind person
can't get without visual.

2. Such as a name of a street one is on. What is around such a
stores.
