I did that but when I entered the roughte I wanted it went through the whole and said I arrived before I even got out of the house! So I do not know what I did wrong!

When you begin to create a route you are asked if you want to create a "pedestrian route" or a "Vehicle route"; to do what you are trying to do, you need to type p for Pedestrian rather than v for Vehicle.
