Have you considered trying Sibelius along with the Sibelius Access scripts? Sibelius is a powerful notation program similar to Finale. See www.musicaccess.co.uk for info. The scripts are free but you would have to buy Sibelius 5.2. You could get it at a considerable academic discount since you're a student.
