[goodfeel] Re: Numbering of Upbeats

Hello,

I usually number the pickup bar 1 and then check the box that says do not
number this bar. That makes things a bit more consistent in my opinion,
since I am running into pickup measures after a repeat in many of my pieces,
for example the Vivaldi Sonata in E Minor for Cello and Piano. Every
movement has a pickup measure at the beginning of one beat, which may or may
not be one note. Then the section plays out and ends in a repeat followed
by another pickup measure to start the next section until the end of the
movement.

Patrick

Ok, whatever it is called, is it not always numbered 0? Sorry for any
confusion.
Cheers, James

Yep, pick-up measure or bar is the popular term, meaning a bar of
fewer beats than is specified in the time signature. Sometimes this
is called bar 0.
