Peter, I got the mail ok as well, and here's a few thoughts about the changes:

Looks decidedly low-tech and clunky compared to the beauty and slickness of 
the board and stones, which by the way still take my breath away.  Maybe 
make the ring thicker so it's more prominent?  Or how about turn it into a 
ring-shaped piece of the opposite color stone texture?

Very nice idea, and more interesting than the plain old circle.  I 
personally still would like a subtle glow or aura effect though.

Yes, both of these appear as intended now.

Also, I am having an issue with shadows that I don't think has been raised 
yet.  On my WinXP Pro/Geforce3 box, stone shadows appear patchy, as in this 
screen capture: 
http://mysite.verizon.net/mdrohn/images/gIGo/shadow.jpg.  Interestingly 
enough the shadows are correct on my Win98SE box with an old Nvidia Riva 
128 card, probably because it's running glGo in software mode.
