Babette, please ignore my last plea. I found an error that I had made and
fixed the problem. I may have a further question, but the most immediate
problem has been resolved.

Hi Babette,



I don't see how I can just look at the saved file. I see this dialog box
messages: "Quicken will restore this backup file. Location to restore."
When I try to just put the backed up copy on the desktop it doesn't happen,
and it looks to me like it only wants to replace/restore the file. I
thought I could just open it and look at it-or print part of it, as you
suggested.

If it's ok to hit "restore", meaning it would just make a copy of it, where
do you suggest putting that file?

Irma...when you restore a file (using the command in the File
Menu>Backup/Restore), you create a copy of the Restored file and then have
the option of overwriting the current file (which you don't want to do) or
opening a separate copy of the restored file.



Doing the latter with the last backup you made before the Savings account
"fix", you can open the restored file and take a look at and/or print out
the register for your checking account so that you could compare it to your
current file with the wrong balance.



You can print out the register using any date range you like...I'd suggest
printing out the last couple of months, to start with, and see if there are
any aberrations.



I imagine the bank probably had you deactivate and reactivate the accounts
to get them set up again, and that really shouldn't have changed anything in
the registers. But who knows?!



Following are the Help File directions re restoring a file.


Restore a Quicken data file from your computer


1. Connect the external drive, or insert the USB drive or disk that
contains the data file your want to restore.
2. Choose File menu > Backup and Restore > Restore from Backup File.
3. If you want to restore a backup file that Quicken created
automatically for you, choose Restore from automatic backup, and then select
one of the backup files listed.
4. If you want to restore a backup file that you created yourself,
choose Restore from your backup, and then click Browse to locate your
backup.

A Quicken backup file has a .qdf-backup extension.

5. To replace the current file with the backup, select Overwrite the
open file with the restored file and click Restore Backup.

Restoring backup file replaces your current data with the data you've stored
on your backup disk. Be aware that you will lose any changes you've made to
your file since the backup was made. If you want to preserve the current
file, you must rename the current file or create a copy of the file you're
restoring.


Restore a Quicken data file from the Web


1. Choose File menu > Backup and Restore > Restore from Backup File.
2. Select Restore from online backup.
3. Select the data file you want to restore, and click OK.

A dialog displays the five most recent backups you've made of each Quicken
data file that you're backing up online. The file with the most recent date
and time stamp is the most recently backed up data file.

I think I just got a big problem resolved through Quicken support. My bank
hadn't been downloading my savings transactions, and now I believe the
problem is solved. I'm assuming all will be well BUT during the process my
Quicken checking statement balance grew to 3 TIMES as much as the accurate
amount. I looked it over, but except for 2 transactions I can't find
duplicates, which might go back years. I have the correct list of
transactions, before the changes were made during our support conversation,
backed up on my flash drive.



Should I install the version that was backed up on my flash drive? I'm not
familiar with this process, and, I don't want to undo all the work the
Quicken support person did to activate my savings file.
