I never thought about that, but the electronics in the newer furnaces may 
make a difference. Mine is older too (maybe 20 years). I only ran the 
furnace, no lights or anything, and no problem. I also tried it in my 
garage, which has a 150,000 BTU gas unit heater, and it runs that fine too. 
But I've had it about 40 years and bought it used. My intent was to run the 
furnace, or refrigerator, or fans, as needed, but 1 at a time.

Good point here, but I'd be more concerned about supplying power to all my 
neighbors, and then not having enough for myself!
