Technically, they use what is called a "disrupter", they don't blow it up,
but the media isn't interested in accuracy as much as sensationalism. It is
meant to "shock" the components and break the parts of the detonation
mechanism or power supply. Think of being hit by a high velocity, heavy bean
bag. No flame, not explosion, but lots of shocking power.
