Versions prior to v0.27 are denoted using a triplet of integers: MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH . From 
v0.27 forward, the fourth digit is a "tweak" and designates the pre-release 
number of the version.

Anyone else seen this?

I made a clean, minimal (no exiv2), installation of Xubuntu, then compiled exiv2 0.27 from sources.

I then compiled Geeqie from sources. There was no problem.
