***This is a message from a member of Friends of Students for 60,000*** dear friends, jen brady-cotter unveiled the most complete version of our web site, www.fsf60k.org. check it out and you'll agree it's eye-catching and full of information. more features will be added, including an online payment system, but for now it gives us a solid position on the internet and will be key to fund-raising, communicating and reaching new members. among coming attractions are a photo gallery and newspaper clippings. your suggestions for improving the site are welcome. minutes from the monthly meeting, such as this one, will be posted. jen deserves our thanks, and more, for persisting with this project despite a number of obstacles. lisa flanagan, adviser to students, reported that both the winter and spring trips went well, and cultural experiences were added to the usual construction. on the nuevo amanecer regional water project, she expressed confidence that it will be completed successfully. an engineer's report is expected in early may, and the project will take six-seven months once under way. families will be expected to pay toward the cost of the water, with the proceeds going into a reserve fund for maintenance and other future costs. shari kornblatt noted the the nuevo literacy program is becoming more popular. it's designed for older children who are playing catch-up because they did not receive an elementary school education. rosa ojeda, a teacher in chacraseca and a leader of the nuevo literacy program, is coming to the new york area this weekend and will spend several days here. if you wish to meet her, and perhaps secure an autograph, contact lisa at lisapflanagan@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx george pardo, our nicaragua chairman, plans to establish his own nonprofit, transtec americas inc., with a business plan. its mission will be to foster sustainable economic development, fueled by technologies that will work in the third world. he plans to obtain 501c3 status, but until then would funnel donations through friends. one technology he mentioned is using bags of earth as building materials. *** You can unsubscribe from this list by sending an email to fsf60k-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the subject field.
