Yader and Conchita went to Managau today to talk to the manufacture of the
Rope Pump. Below is my reply to him. It seems that they are interested in
getting the gasoline run Rope Pump. It also seems that they feel that the
pump is easily maintainable and repairable. They are in a better position to
judge that as they are there and I am not. I believe that they are in
possesion of all the funds required for all components of the water project,
but after I receive answers to the questions I have posed to them, I think
that we should all meet to get everyone's opinions.

Thanks for getting back to me.
I had talked to Christian myself, and he recommended the gas pump. You said
Conchita, Martin and Gonzalo were excited about it. The money is really the
community's money but I know that they would want the blessing of SF60K
before spending it, as we have all been working together as brothers and
sisters for the better of the community at Nuevo Amanecer.
I have a couple of concerns, which maybe they have already discussed but I
need to ask anyway:
Where are they getting the gas for the pump and how are they transporting
it?
How are they panning to pay for the gas, per person or per family?
Will the community be able to afford the gas to be able to provide for all
their water needs?
The height of the tank is not something that will just work. It needs to be
calculated based on the size of the pipe and the distance of the furthest
house. Please consult with Julio from Chica to get a recommendation on the
type and placement of the tank. I think he would be willing to help. If
not let me know.
After placing the order, how qucik will the pump be installed?
The $17.95 price for Filtron sounds like the price for the complete filter
with the clay pot included. We do not need the clay pot, only the bottom
part that receives the clean water as we will add our own filter system .
You may want to double check that.
Those are my concerns.
You and the community should know that although you are not hearing from
them, there are many people here that have been contacting me offiering to
help and very concerned about this particular water project as well as other
people in need of help. You should know that you are all in the prayers and
hearts of many people here.
Please reply as soon as possible. After I get your group's reply I will
hold a meeting with all parites concenred here to get their opinions. I
know that the people there are the ones that are suffering on a day to day
basis, but I also feel that many people here have offered much in the way of
funds as well as their compassion and I would want to give them a chance to
voice their opinions.
Thank you for all you help. You have made the process go so much faster and
smoother that if you were not involved.

I've got some information for you, I hope it is usefull to you.
I got in touch with Christian Barberena from Bombas de Mecate S.A an he
says that the pump you all were thinking about is not in the market anymore,
that would be the pump wind driven with a gasoline generator as back up.
The wind part gave so much trouble in the past due to the dramatic change of
the direction of the wind and they just did not have the time to fix them so
often.
The pump they are offering right now is a 31/2 and 4 HP able to supply
anough water for the comunity. Christian told me that its strength is 40 to
50 galons a minute with a gasoline generator only. The price of it is
US$1,100 dollars already installed and ready to run.
Conchita, Martin and Gonzalo are OK with this pump and excited about it,
since the maintenance of it is not too complicated. The same guy
that's going to install the pump will instruct the people in the community
on how to keep it maintained and running well. They will get a manual in
spanish which should not be that complicated to understand. These leaders
feel good with it.
About the tank and the tower, conchita and people of the community already
got something in mind about that. They are planning on building a
concrete/rebar container that will hold 6,000 galons on the hill, behind the
community house for better preassure for the better distribution of the
vital liquid into each one of the homes. What I could not get you was the
estimated price of that, Conchita did not have it in mind and the
information that is needed Monika has it. Of course, I think she is out of
the country. I will send you that information later. I think it should have
about the same price as a plastic tank of 5,000 thousand galons with its
tower.
Filtron, Potters for peace, they have for sale two types of filter buckets
one of them is 5 gallons and it costs US$17.25 per unit and a larger one of
30 litters with a cost of US$20.70 dollars, if we give them a notice a head
of time of we we would like them, they will have them all ready for us the
same day. We only get a discount if we get 100 of them or more.
