Why not go really portable and use a beefy laptop for the server, maybe one
with 2 mirrored hard drives.
Give it 4 gb of ram and get a fast dual core and you might be set.

Cost is an approximate measure of the amount of resources needed to
turn the project into a reality. The lower the cost, the more likely
it will happen.
As for specs, I based them on the answers I got in this thread and a
little Googling. Anyone get different numbers?
