I spoke on the phone today with the receptionist at Gertrude
Recycling (GR), which is at the end of Chippewa, not far from our
warehouse. Their worst prices for metal (steel, copper, aluminum) are
so much better than ESRC's price that it makes little sense to use
ESRC for anything but monitors and plastic. GR accepts plastic, but
will not pay for it.
ESRC pays 3 cents per pound for metal or plastic -- it doesn't matter
which. GR pays 45 cents to $1.50 per pound for grades of steel. In
the best case, GR currently pays 50 times more for steel than ESRC.
In the worst case, 15 times more. We can increase revenue
substantially trading with GR. In fact, to date, we haven't realized
any revenue at all from ESRC.
I will take a disassembled computer from the warehouse to Gertrude
Recycling for them to analyze and price out components. We must be
sure that we can properly identify and sort the different metals so
we get the best price and so that Gertrude Recycling trusts our
process. I will ask one of their staff to train us.
