Thanks for refreshing my memory. Now I recall this was the discussion we
had at the Board meeting and how to address this concern for freebox
recipients. If I understand correctly this is the concern you have with the
Perley school project.

1. NetZero doesn't support Gnu-Linux.
NetZero probably only supports Windows. Michiana Freenet is basically
operating system agnostic and costs $15 per month. NetZero is probably
less expensive.
2. Tania's system may not have a dialup modem.
If it does have dialup modem, it may not be a hardware controlled modem.
Linux supports hardware controlled modems and a limited number of
software controlled modems, commonly known as Winmodems unless they work
with Linux, in which case they are called Linmodems. The point is
hardware controlled modems are increasing hard to find. Software modems
are less expensive to produce because they rely on the hardware and the
operating system inside the computer to work properly. Hardware
controlled modems largely don't really care what the computer hardware
or operating system is.
3. Tania doesn't know how to configure a modem in Vector Linux.
I asked her to bring the FreeBox to the warehouse so we can look at it
and see if it has a supported modem. If so, I can configure it for her.
If not, we can find a hardware modem to install and configure. But we
may not be able to test the system at the warehouse.
