Last Saturday, I ran into St. Joseph County Council representative Mike Kruk. He asked me what's new, and I told him about the FOSS (Free/Open Source Software) movement. During the discussion I mentioned that FOSS helps create more transparent government, improves citizen access to public information/data and saves taxpayers' money.

Mike is going to find out who is responsible for the IT (information technology) budget for the county. My goals are to obtain the budget, analyze it and design a presentation on FOSS for the County Commissioners and County Council. Of course, I will explain my role in the Free Geek Michiana so county government is aware of us.
